A few weeks ago we brought home a Fraser Fir that Nick chopped down at the local tree farm. It stands in a corner of the living room and I am in awe of its fairy gown of twinkling, colored lights and mirrored, shiny ornaments.
I remember a time long ago when I would sit and watch, transfixed, at the outer space-looking aluminum Christmas tree and the motorized color wheel that turned the tree from amber to green to red to blue. Was it really nearly 50 years ago when I would beg to sleep under the tree to wait for Santa?
I still get a kick out of our annual excursion of lightseeing, driving up and down the streets oohing and ahhing at our neighbors’ Christmas lights. I have to admit that I prefer the colored lights, but the white lights are pretty, too.
No matter which holiday tradition you celebrate — whether it is Christmas, Yule, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Ramadan, it is Light that is the commonality that connects our souls. Psychic Sonia Choquette once wrote that we should enter this season with the intention of being a personal messenger of light and love. For every person creating joy, she says, there is one less person in pain.
Have you ever seen a white feather on your clothing or in a place where feathers definitely don't belong? Have you ever seen angels in cloud formations? Have you ever smelled an unusual but very sweet fragrance from out of nowhere?
These are signs from the angels, the Creator’s messengers of light. Everywhere you look, there are tributes to angels: books, movies, jewelry, clothing, paintings, architecture. And everyone seems to have their own interpretation of angels. Artist masters like DaVinci and Michelangelo often portrayed angels with halos and great, bird-like wings. But some people believe they look just like us.
According to most religions, there are three orders of angels. The highest order are the Seraphim, Cherubim and Thrones, who serve as heavenly counselors. The next order are the Dominions, Virtues and Powers. They are the heavenly governors. But the order we connect to the most--the Messengers--are the Principalities, Archangels and Angels. There are millions of Angels and each human being has at least two guardian Angels.
There are many Archangels, too, however it is Michael, Jophiel, Chamuel, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel and Zadkiel who are connected to the 7 color rays.
The First Ray is Blue, the Ray of Protection. Archangel Michael is the angel of the Blue Ray and you may call upon him by visualizing Blue light all around you and letting this light fill your body, from your head to your feet. Michael means ("He who is like God”). Michael helps shield people from negativity. Michael is the patron of police officers and it was he who taught Adam how to farm in the Garden of Eden.
The Second Ray is Yellow, the Ray of Education and Confidence. Archangel Jophiel is the angel of this ray and you can connect with him by visualizing Yellow light all around you and letting this light fill your body, from your head to your feet. Jophiel is the patron of artists and his name means “Beauty of God”.
Archangel Chamuel oversees the Third Ray, Pink, the Ray of Love. Chamuel’s name means "He who sees God” and he helps people find love and forgiveness. You can invite Chamuel into your life by visualizing Pink light.
The Fourth Ray is White and Archangel Gabriel represents this ray of Harmony and Purity. Gabriel helps people find their next step in life or divine mission and you can connect with him by visualizing White light. His name means “God is my strength” and it was Gabriel who told Elizabeth and Mary about the future births of their sons, John the Baptist and Jesus.
The Fifth Ray is Green for Healing. Archangel Raphael is the angel of healing and abundance and his name means “God heals”. Raphael traveled with Tobias and is known as the patron of travelers. Raphael helps people find their balance. Visualize Green light whenever you need Raphael.
Archangel Uriel is the angel of the Sixth Ray—Gold, the Ray of Peace. Uriel’s name means "God is light"and he helps people find serenity and frees them from fears. It was Uriel who warned Noah about the oncoming flood. You can connect with Uriel when you visualize Gold light all around you and letting this light fill your body.
The Seventh Ray is Violet, the Ray of Freedom. Archangel Zadkiel is associated with this ray and you can call on Zadkiel’s guidance by visualizing Violet. In the Bible, it was Zadkiel who stopped Abraham from sacrificing his son, Isaac. Zadkiel’s name means "The righteousness of God" and he is the angel to turn to when you need to find diplomacy and tolerance.
Do you remember the movie, “It’s A Wonderful Life”, when George Bailey meets his angel Clarence for the first time? Old Mossback George didn’t believe in angels, at least not until the classic end, when little Zuzu says: “Look, Daddy, teacher says every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings.”
Like George Bailey, I didn’t always believe in angels. But I’ve come to appreciate their beautiful color rays of Blue, Yellow, Pink, White, Green, Gold and Violet…and I know that whenever I feel lost in the darkness…all I have to do is visualize their brilliant Light…and my angels are right beside me.
